Be an Orphan Warrior

I love Reece's Rainbow.  I always have, and always will.  Besides the adoption part of it my favorite part of Reece's Rainbow is how easy it is to invest in the life of an orphan from half a world away.  I have held 'orphans' and loved them, and not being able to physically love on them right now, hurts.  So, now that I am home I have had to find ways to make a difference from here (or risk blowing up).   One of the things I have done is become an Orphan Warrior for RR.  Here is what the website says about it..

One of the most effective ways to raise awareness and grant donations is for each child to have a dedicated WARRIOR. Focused efforts for one specific child have proven to be very powerful!

There is no cost, no required period of time, and no set goal. Any of our 0-5 year children, Down syndrome, HIV, or "Other Angels". Use Facebook, email, your blog, any other way you can to help your chosen child find their "forever family".

This is how I see it, there are millions on orphans in the world and a couple hundred of those children are listed on RR.  A couple hundred seems like a small number compared to the millions out there.  Wouldn't it be nice if the children listed on RR all has someone rooting for them?  Someone who was praying for them specifically to find a family?  Someone who would hoot and holler for them until their parents found them?  Someone who would cry for them?  Someone who would put a bit (or a lot!) of money into their grant fund when they could?  Sadly, many of the children do not have someone like this and are slipping through the cracks.  And it breaks my heart.  Being a warrior is not hard at.all.  I know many of you already have sponsored children through different organizations (I do to!) but this is not the same thing.  There is NO obligation to get such-and-such amount of money into the child's grant fund (all though getting it off of zero would be awesome!).

Please take a look at the children on these pages and see how you can NOT fall in love with one (or 2 or 3!) of them.

To become a warrior for one of the Children email Michelle at michelle at reecesrainbow dot org and tell her the child you want to warrior for and your blog address (if you have one).  That's it, easy as pie.  A button will be put next to the child's profile telling the world that someone specifically chose and loves them.

I'm really not sure how anyone can say no to that. : )

Spring in Canada

It is officially spring, or so I've heard.
We are not feeling it here at.all.  This week we have had record snow falls.
In case you don't believe me, I took some pictures to prove it to all you Southerners.

Abby (age 4) let me use her as an example of how high the snow is by our drive way.

Photobucket

She is a really, really weird child.
Goodness I love her.

Photobucket

The snow has been so bad that people are snow blowing their roofs.
Um, yeah.  It's a little weird.

My parents were gone all day on Thursday.  We had a hoot.
It makes me excited for when they are gone picking up our sister in EE.
We even got a little school work done in between playing outside and eating cake.

Since coming home from Africa I really have not been taking pictures.  I didn't really realize it until I was looking through my pictures on my computer and realized I had, well, none.  None that were not pictures of black kids that is.  I have been making a point of taking more pictures now.

And get this, I actually like taking pictures!  hah, big surprise there.

My dog is getting big.  Notice I said dog not puppy.

Like I said, Abby is her own person.  Here she is 'swimming' in the snow.

Joshua (age 9) is currently the only boy at home.
He melts my heart.

It's days like this that I never want to forget.
It has hit me how fast life goes by, and I don't want to miss anything, I really can't afford too.  These days of waiting for the new Little to come home are really special.  We have no choice but to sit back and wait.
It's a weird feeling.

Hope

Meet my little sister Julissa,

Photobucket

For the last few months she has been doing a fundraiser to raise money for Reece's Rainbow (big surprise, eh?).  A while ago she decided to become a warrior for a child and give the money raised to that specific child.  Oddly enough, the child she fell in love with has the same name as her fundraiser {Hope}.

Meet Hope.
Photobucket

She even made a blog specifically for Hope.

I know it would mean a lot to her to if you could leave a comment and/or follow.
And please say a quick prayer for Hope.  She has many things stacked against her finding a family.

Guess who!

Guess who I received pictures of the other week?

Photobucket

Do you recognize him?

Photobucket

How about now?

What, you still don't know who this is?

Photobucket

How about now, do you recognize this sweet smile and beyond cute face?

Photobucket

It's Alex!
{Alex is a 4 year old orphan living in Eastern Europe. He has CP .}
And I just about died of cuteness when I found these pictures in my inbox.  They are older, I am guessing about a year old (?).  So he would be about 3 years old.

Photobucket

I just want to scoop him up and never put him down.

Photobucket

As much as I loved seeing these pictures they also broke my heart.
The difference between these next two picture makes me pray even harder for a family to step forward and adopt this sweet boy.

Do you see it?

Sweet Alex, is still sitting in the same baby walker.  But, now his toys are gone.  break.my.heart  Please join  me in praying for a family for this boy.  He will be turning 5 this September and he will be transferred to an institution and will remain bedridden for the rest of his life.  IF he is not adopted first.

You can find more information on him at Reece's Rainbow
Please pass his info on to anyone you might know who might be open to adopting him.
But most importantly, please pray for him and for his family to step forward soon.

And, because he is cute...

Cystic Fibrosis (CF)

A few weeks ago I started volunteering with a little boy who lives in my area of the world.
He is 3 (almost 4) and is the cutest.
He also has Cystic Fibrosis.

I adore him.

If your like I was a few weeks ago, you have no idea what CF is.
Here is a movie I found about it a while back.  I think it is adorable.
And it is pretty easy to understand.  which is pretty important.

There, now don't you feel a little smarter?

Basically all I have been doing with him is playing and interacting with him and his 2 older siblings.  They all rock.  It was hard to make it all work at first because I can't be around people (who could potentially be sick) for 4 days before I go to this family's house. Every time a person with CF gets sick it shortens their life by a chunk of time so we have to be careful. Yikes!   It's worth it though and I know it is what I should be doing right now. I'm heading to their house again tomorrow, can you see the excitement on my face? Because it's there.

I have a soft spot in my heart for children with special needs and I am loving learning about CF.
Do any of you know someone with CF? This is definitely a first for me.
