Her very own page

My sweet Ksenia K.

Well I am happy to say that she now has her very own page on Reece's Rainbow!!
It is now easier to share her story with the world.  She now has a chance to be SEEN.

So please, you have no excuse.  Share her page on facebook.  On your blog.  In an email.  Message it to someone who might know someone who may want to adopt.  Get busy and share her face!!  It is so serious.

Also, please, PLEASE pray for her.

I don't want to forget.

Two months this Tuesday.
That is how long I have had Gergana in my life.

It doesn't seem that long when you think about it.  It's only been two months.  However at the same time it feels like so much longer.  Life has gone back to normal, whatever that means.  Bonds are slowly growing between the different individuals in the family.  English is exploding.  Jet-leg is no where to be seen.  Anger and confusion are only a very small part of our lives.  As the days pass and life continues to move on I find myself forgetting the emotions of the adoption process.  I love where we are headed.  I love our new life.  I love my sister [a lot].  However I do not want to forget where we have come from.  I don't want to forget where Gergana came from just because the 'now' of our lives has calmed down.  Her past and the pain of this transition deserves to be remembered.

[why yes Gergana is eating the cat's tale. ahem]

I don't want to forget the hard we all experienced the first few weeks home.  I don't want to forget the tears and goodbyes she had to say in Bulgaria.  I don't want to forget the confusion of the long flight home.  I don't want to forget any of it.  So I keep those emotions close.  I keep the pictures and movies close.  I keep the memories close.  Because as hard as it all was, it was worth being able to watch this miracle unfold.
I am so blessed.

Gergana is crazy.  She is so, so funny.  Maybe she isn't actually funny and I just think she is funny because she is my sister.  Seriously though, I love her.  And she makes me laugh.

Checking to see who's hands are bigger.  And the stinker kept jumping in front of the camera.
I never thought I would see the day she would actually want her picture taken..

Blessed.

an adoption clinic // a monkey girl

This morning started early.  Way to early in my opinion.  Gergana had an appointment at an adoption clinic in the city near here and we had heard that parking was an issue in that area of town, so we left giving ourselves plenty of time to get there.  Gergana is so funny in the morning when she is waking up.  She makes so much noise and usually just falls back to sleep.  So the entire drive was spent with Gergana getting some extra shut eye.  Poor girl woke up as we were entering the city and you could tell she had so much nervous energy.  She has been telling us for a week now that she didn't want any needles.  And we really couldn't tell her that she would not be getting any (because the reality is that she WILL need a ton of blood work done soon.).  So she was scared silly.  Understandably.  She is funny though, because she will be freaked out one minute and then will go goofy again.  She is kind of confusing like that.

We waited for about half an hour before the doctor came in.  As soon as the doctor came Gergana calmed down.  I love the Dr.  She was great with Gergana.  We sat and talked about everything.  Behavior issues, eating issues, what she was like in Bulgaria etc.  She (the Dr.) was very thorough about all of that.  And the best part?  It seems we are on the right track to success.  Gergana is attaching well and adjusting to life here in Canada as well as can be expected.  Of course she has only been home 6 weeks compared to her 9 YEARS in orphanages in Bulgaria.  But we are not seeing any red flags...for anything.  Praise God!

On the physical front, Gergana is healthy.  I haven't talked about it to much here, but Gergana is diagnosed with Hydrocephalus (water on the brain).  It wasn't found out until she was 4 years old which is actually a good sign that it wasn't so severe.  She had a shunt placed (a tube that drains the extra fluid from her brain to her abdomen cavity) thanks to an amazing organization serving Bulgarian orphans.  She has been fine ever since.  According to the doctor today she shouldn't be having any problems.  We will be seeing a specialist just in case though, and just to have all our bases covered if we ever run into an emergency.  She is skinny and needs to get more calcium but is healthy.  She has appointments for her Eyes and Ears to be checked out, we are working on getting plans in place for her [badly] rotting teeth, and will need to tackle the dreaded blood work (That we decided not to do today) sometime soon.  Pray for us.  Hah.

--------------------------

Gergana slept most of the ride back home.  So we decided that in order to have any chance of having G sleep tonight we needed to go outside and get some exercise.  Thankfully it was a nice day and everyone was down with a trip to the park.

Abigail (age 5) was just so yummy today.  I don't know what it was, but I couldn't help giving her a few extra kisses.  It doesn't help that she is a monkey these days.  Anyone who knows Ab knows that she has an amazing imagination, and that she often turns into an animal for days on end.  Right now she happens to be a monkey.  I'm thinking it may have something to do with her new hat.
Just a guess though.

The below movie might be a tad boring for anyone who is not related to this baby.
You've been warned.

Now all the littles are safely tucked into bed.  Sleeping.
Amen and Hallelujah.

Welcoming

Ksenia.  One of the meanings for her name is 'Welcoming'.  I find that beautiful.  When God created Ksenia I'm sure he had big dreams for her.  Dreams of using little Ksenia to show the world what he is like.  To draw people closer to him through her welcoming spirit.

Ksenia was made in God's image.  God created her just right.

However our world is so broken and sinful that the people around Ksenia did not recognize that special spark in her when she was born.  Maybe they saw it, but were just to scared to embrace her.  Maybe they saw perfectly well the gift they had been given, but just could not provide for her.

Either way, 8 years later Ksenia is no longer living but merely existing.

In just one months time Ksenia will turn 9 years old.  Nine whole years have passed since God blessed the world with this precious gift.  The one with the welcoming spirit.  The gift that God had great plans for.  The gift that everyone forgot about.  The day will go by unnoticed.

It breaks my heart.  This girl deserves so much more then life in a mental institute, to be forgotten.  She has so much to offer the world if she only was given the chance.  She deserves to be remembered.

"It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish." -Mother Teresa

Ksenia is available for adoption.  There is still a chance for her.  But sadly, she is currently only available to Canadian families.  That makes it extra hard to find a family to step out for her.  On top of that her adoption will cost around 50K.  Such a high price, but honestly, Ksenia is so very worth.
Please pray and yell for her.  She deserves it.

Ksenia is listed on Reece's Rainbow.  You will have to scroll down a bit to find her picture.
She currently does not have a grant fund.

I remember a year ago so clearly.  We were going through an especially stressful time with our adoption.  Rushing to fix some miss communications and to get paperwork ready.  It was bad and tensions were at an all time high in our house.  It was one of those times where I found myself 2nd guessing our decision to adopt. I would of given anything to snap my fingers and have it all go away.

Now, looking back I'm so glad God didn't gift me with that supper power.  It was so very worth it.

And this little girl is very quickly stealing my heart.

All the paperwork, all the frustrations, all the battles, all the tears.
It was all worth hearing her exclaim 'Good morning!' when I come upstairs for breakfast.
She was so very worth it.

These two girls..

Make the world a happier place.  I could eat them they are so cute.
(and good thing they are not orphans, or else I would be in real trouble!)

Shattered.

How can this be?

Ksenia's old picture..

Ksenia's new picture..

I have no words.
Pray, please pray, that someone will take this girl home.  She is 7 and running out of time.

come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
a strong fortress to save me."

One month together!

Today marks exactly one month since we we picked Gergana up from the Lawyers office in Bulgaria.  She has changed so much since then.  I look back and am amazed at how far we have come!  Everyday isn't a struggle anymore.  Sure life is exhausting and we have hard parts.  But I honestly can't remember when the last screaming episode was.  Life is starting to feel normal, and I am beginning to forget what life was like without her.  How did I survive without this precious nine year old knocking on my bedroom door a million times a day?  She is so full of personality.  I wish you could all meet her, you would love her as much as we do!

Today also happened to be our first trip to the pool!  Gergana wasn't to sure about it at first.  It took her about 5 minutes of seeing us in the water for her to decide that she wanted to join the fun.  And boy did she have fun!

She is such an actor.  In the above picture she was freaking out about the water being cold.  Seriously?  You have been playing in this water for 20 minutes and just now you decide your cold?  She is so dramatic.  Makes me laugh.

Oh how I LOVE this girl!  I am so relieved that she is finally home, safe!

Happy One month Gergana!

What happened?

I have become one of those people.  You know the ones.  The type of person who randomly looks up cute pictures of dogs on the internet.  I swear, a week of watching Animal Planet in Bulgaria did something to me!  I find my pup way to adorable.

And when I found Kenya sleeping on my bed the other day?  My heart may of melted a little.

I fear I'm on a slippery slope towards buying dog booties and celebrating animal birthdays!
Just kidding mom.
But really.

This happens to be my favorite page in my Bible.

It's a good one.  You should read it.

Happy New Years everyone!
